Best Women Clothing for Your Body Shape

No more asking yourself “What is the women clothing for my body shape?” in frustration, ladies! Chances are you’ve done a bit of searching already for a fabulous dress, maybe even picked out a few, but are still none the wiser about actually dressing for your shape. Based on the shapes we’ve defined, let’s take a peek at the dresses that work overtime to highlight your assets and keep pesky trouble spots cleverly concealed.

Too Big

Top : If you’re curvy all over, don’t make yourself look bigger in loud colours or look-at-me patterns. Go for long tunic tops and plenty of layers in darker colours, which are always more slimming.

Trousers : When it comes to trousers, wide-legged pants are best, in fluid, floaty fabrics. Pair them with a long tailored jacket, for more shape, but never choose anything with epaulettes!

Skirts : Figure-hugging dresses are not for you, you may find that separates fit better. You can wear long slit skirts, but ones that finish just below the knee will be more flattering. Try a fifties retro shape in a dark colour. Just because you’re big, doesn’t mean you have to hide yourself away! Play up areas you’re happy with, show a little cleavage, or look for subtle patterns and motifs, but don’t use too many colours at once. Avoid belted dresses and trench coats, which could make you look dumpy, long, clean lines will add height.

Shoes : When choosing shoes, don’t go for anything too high. Pick a medium heel to slim your calves and add a little elegance to your outfit.

Too Small

Top : To lengthen your torso, choose waisted or belted styles. Small busts can take all sorts of different colours and textures, so stockpile tops in colours which suit you, in plenty of different styles. Mix and match fabrics, try pairing a silky top with a fitted denim jacket. Don’t drown yourself in baggy clothes, be daring, go for trims, sequins and corsages with your low-slung trousers. But not all at once.

Trousers : Wear hipster trousers to lengthen your body, but nothing too flared as it will shorten your legs. If you’re proud of your pins, try drainpipes with a good pair of shoes (and make all your friends jealous).Be as adventurous as you dare… hotpants with tights and platforms? Why not?

Skirts : Lucky you, you can wear all sorts of sexy styles, anything fitted will flatter. Go for straight skirts for an elegant, long-legged look, but always make sure you wear a fitted top. Dresses and skirts which finish just below the knee are very flattering, you can even wear ankle-length with the right top, but short skirts may make you look too young.

Shoes : Try not to use your shoes to compensate for your size, stilettoes and high heels will look like you are trying too hard. Try kitten heels, for a more elegant option

Too Tall

Top : First things first: try not to stoop, it will only make you look worse. Hold your head up high! You are lucky enough to be able to pull off striking looks, so play around with colour and texture – dare to layer. Think outside the box if you want to look shorter, try an Indian sari over jeans, or a silk scarf slung over your shoulder to shorten your upper body

Trousers : Choose fabrics that drape and hang well, to make the most of your long legs. Tailored, wide-leg trousers will look wonderfully elegant on your figure. Go for low-slung waists if you want to shorten your legs.

Skirts : For a more ladylike option, go for a long slit skirt, for a subtle flash of leg. The best length for you is just below the knee, perfect for a forties pencil skirt. Be careful, anything too short will make your legs look like they go on for ever, which may not be what you are aiming for.Choose fabrics which hang well, in soft colours.

Shoes : Don’t make the mistake of schlepping around in flats all the time! You may not need the height, but a smart heel will make you look elegant, giving you more shapely calves and ankles.

Pear Shaped

Top : If you are smaller on top, then choose shapes which will balance your figure. Make the most of your top half to draw the eye upwards, with corsages, jewellry and trimmings – be as original as you like! Play with make-up too, make a feature out of your mouth or eyes and try new hairstyles, to find one that really flatters your face. Always make sure you are wearing the right underwear… team a flattering bra with the right top and and no-one will even notice your hips!

Trousers : Always wear darker colours on your bottom half, never any patterns. Choose straight-cut styles, and build your outfits round them. Think long, not short, say goodbye to summer shorts and choose skirts instead.

Skirts : Go for skirts which finish below the knee, in neutral colours and subtle patterns. A fifties full skirt is a stylish option, or try fabrics that will skim your hips, not stick to them. If you fancy something a bit more girly, try an empire-line dress, to show off your bosom and disguise your bottom.

Shoes : Choose structured shoes, which will slim your feet. Heels which are too high, will put too much strain on your arches and platforms will make your bottom half look bigger. Flats won’t do your hips any favours either. The best thing to do is to go for a medium or kitten heel, to shape your lower leg and add a couple of extra inches. Make sure you feel comfortable wearing them!
